Harness 04:12
you call her but your words mean nothing she watches as you fuss with bunting it’s raining and you promised sunlight behind her stands the ocean upright it’s a complex weave make an excuse and leave in her window is a photograph of her father and he starts to laugh so you wander to the kitchenette with a question that you then forget better wait outside take your luncheon and hide yes I haven’t seen her lately no it was amber and she had to go this is language that I shouldn’t use near the water get the seaside blues try to catch her eye watch her wave goodbye you’re in harness babe you’re in harness to her watcha gonna do now

Walker 05:53
all right now it’s over now sleep well now for now I thought the sea would break into particles like the road you stand with your arms raised up about to leave the earth telling off the wind the edges of the lake are far away as we move closer they shift the clouds that float upon the water are dark as the sky and in the earth below our dreams the city runs aground and if we take the ropes and pull we fall into the sea the current runs faster than days I’ll volunteer a few days more the dancer tumbles down across the rail just before the train arrives she folds an origami swan the mirror holds a different view I look at constellations and count the stars you are furlongs away the ocean rises over every landscape we never knew and on the littered shores our fears are bleeding through the scraps if I look through my open door what knocks beneath the glass the chess game slows the tides run out the river rushes in my ears in the doorway you only see the wooden frame nothing stays behind the body takes destruction all the crows lined up on a single wire and in the quiet hour we hear the blood sing in our heads and in our tacit bones the noise of traffic rumbles on this road’s a thread longer than time I swim a long way from home

I wanna go where the kingdom reigns be looking out through the windowpanes and walk around like I’m really tall let my eyes drift off the ball always be on my holidays umbrellaed cocktails on silver trays I wanna make everybody laugh go home and soak in a nice hot bath I wanna be Queen of England Queen of England yeah Wanna ride through a fountained square and wave to crowds that are waiting there I’ll take the time just to look around may spy my picture in the underground I wanna have everything there is from chocolate pancakes to ambergris I wanna find there’s a place to be where people love someone just like me I wanna be Queen of England yeah I really wanna be I wanna know what I need to learn to have discussions with the taciturn I want my bark to exceed my bite and choose which days will be dark which bright I wanna be known around the place and need a smile fixed upon my face I wanna know how it feels to live when other people always have to give I wanna be Queen of England yeah I really wanna be I really want that job I just know I would thrive it might be just a fiction but I’d bring it alive I really wanna take big roles in those scenes I wanna have a stake in everything that it means I wanna be the Queen that sister needs to survive everywhere that we go everybody would know and I’d be raring to go cos everywhere that we go yeah everybody would know I’m the Queen of England

Rain 04:41
why is the water boiling sounds of rain on a corrugated roof it’s been raining since the clocks went back fill the gap between the hours looks like rain but I think I’ll chance it the air is still it doesn’t answer I feel like I’ve been waiting all my life for the rain to stop I stand like an astronaut making sense of a piano music falls from the ceiling I stand with my reason as thin as a wish I open my mouth like a fish why does it always start with rain shutters slam against the windows and the doors I’ve been listening since the time went out between the long long hours looks like rain but I think I’ll chance it the sky is dark there is no answer I feel like I’ve been waiting all my life for the rain to stop I stand like an astronaut making sense of a piano music falls from the ceiling I stand with my reason as thin as a wish I open my eyes for a kiss

Cool Head 04:41
this is a song about a broken window somewhere inside my head I couldn’t get that window open I had to break it instead when I climbed out there was dappled sunlight playing across my mind soon I was searching a field of wonder just to see what I’d find I was out of there just as fast as I could dare I was changing every day like some newsboy’s stand display I’m speaking in words from a different era tell you the truth I kinda like it that way make it absurd you can see things clearer nearer and farther away I didn’t try for a regular guy so I heard a lot of new names mostly from voices missing the wonder needing someone to blame once upon a time is the address of sublime but there’s never any mail and the birthday cakes are stale cool heads on patrol everybody thinks he’s crazy don’t feel the heat that’s how they roll likes to make you think he’s lazy wait out rainy days they say yeah everybody wants that action that’s the cool head way it’s not hard to see the attraction I’m gonna add a little sprinkle of Rip Van Winkle and his sleepy time time because waking up twenty years later then he wants it back how it was Rip was no fake he just couldn’t break that window inside his mind and if you don’t let the light in you end up so frightened you leave your future behind well I guess it’s true the only change is who jumps up first to play the game when the show host calls the names looks and sounds like you get what you want cash money all you can stand just work hard smile all day and it’ll fall right in your hand with that money the days are all sunny and you’re shaded from the heat it’s just funny you and that money never meet

on the coast is a town that is cold all year round I don’t even know if this is true I took the edge of her acceptance and fed it to the trees it was nothing like what I remembered in a Fairlane we headed late at night to the shore drinking Evan Williams on the way we ran into the surf and the sand was full of sparks we spun on catherine wheels in the waves sometimes the scent comes unbidden those days we took turns at the wheel we put candles in bottles when we’d finished the wine and the time wasn’t ours to steal the house is gone and the town has grown the water laps at the door out on the Gulf the casinos are open all night dice echo to a sky full of stars on the coast I have hung my apologies on a turnoff to Escambia Bay to him I couldn’t be who you wanted and to her I loved you but the ocean was too wide in the south my abandoned apologies in the live oaks near Escambia Bay flutter like so many foreign flags someone’s seeking someone they all blow away

they say there’s water found on Mars so now we’re going to the stars they say there’s water found on Mars so let’s all head out to the stars tonight they say there’s water found on Mercury enough for maybe half a century they say there’s water found on Mercury almost enough for half a century not quite they say there’s water found on Jupiter let’s hope there is when we get through with her they say there’s water found on Jupiter let’s hope there is when we get through with her delights they say there’s water found in space so let’s go find some other place they say there’s water found in space so let’s go find some other place to blight Bathsheba boop she bop ma belle amie je sais bien que je te fascine ici, sur la planète Saturne je suis sublime

Chemin 03:20
I notice the neighbour is looking right through our window as I get dressed most afternoons and now I wonder what you’re going to do oh sweetheart darling it’s crazy I know it’s absurd I’m sleeping till lunchtime and feel quite concerned for the holes in the curtains I’m watching the birds in the garden oh baby and oh she is lovely how narrow the space between our front doors I’ve darkened our place I’m hoping she’ll keep her light sweetly ablaze oh my baby honey I’m hoping that you’ll understand I’m only a few steps across the chemin I might need to be absent from Thursday night plans oh my darling we noted the time that we passed on the street and met in the park and talked through the week and flesh may be willing but the spirit’s not weak anymore oh darling honey there’s never a moment when you are out of my heart but she’s in there too remember I’ll evermore come home to you you’re my darling oh sweetheart leave open the curtains and the landing light on I’ll frame you in dreams and be back with the sun I’ll wake you for breakfast the clouds will be gone oh my sweetheart

Boomer 07:34
I sit by the river watch the swans that dip and glide I walk on the grass until I’m told to walk beside I treat the world spinning round like a big summer fairground ride and I can’t say I’m troubled I got old before I died I get home in the evening and I turn the light down low then I tune to a station that I like on the radio and if it’s cold I just sit there in the gas fire’s cosy glow till I’m too tired to read and then it’s off to bed I go now I hear tales about how I was real wild I screwed the world up taking drugs as a free love child and the lack of morals that they have today that was me as well oh and I’m also rich with a big house I won’t sell what’s my name boomer I’m to blame boomer should be ashamed to be a mover in the boomer lane you’re in debt boomer rent buy-to-let boomer so what’s the bet it isn’t you who are a boomer yet my parents fought a war and the prize that they received was a better world in which to raise some kids like me and by the time we were of age we were pretty much agreed we were gonna make certain that our minds would all be freed but just like school not all the kids play fair they might talk cool and sport all the fashion-wear but when you ask them how would they like some revolution they shake their heads and then go and cut their hair so the revolt boomer came to a halt boomer they shot the bolt and now consumer is the boomer default and it’s been junked boomer bagged up and trunked boomer that now defunct future the boomers flunked I tell you what I think about the present company some of them talk as if they grew up in the 19th century it’s like they crash a kid’s party take the toys from beneath the tree and when you say to share them out they tell you nope these are all for me so listen close here’s what I want to say any time you think your argument’s holding sway just be sure you know who exactly wants to seize the day so when the caterers serve the lunch it’s not a light buffet ‘course when you smoke boomer they’ll have a toke boomer but when they vote there’s no room for zoomer hopes big show of hands boomer for old school plans boomer whatever man I’m on a groovier boomier waveband

Dance 9 03:49
Christobel how can I really tell from you the lonely pull of swirling words congealed in blue while you take your time the sky lays itself out casting shapes like coastline pompadours for you a citadel you want me parallel to you a world away invoke a blossoming taboo crashing waves and flooded cars on roundabouts a prisoner the air is all that I renounce and night-time comes to sleep with you on restless afternoons and in the dreams that shelter you the sunlight has no room and with your exacting precision you soften a piece of your time and while you pretend to listen and listen my words crumble like bones in lime Christobel I’d like to cast a spell on you you’d be me and I would hold you in my view with every cell that beats between your legs right now while I decide how tight to pull the strings on you and then you turn the stars around and then you change their names the small ones are escaping the big ones fan the flames and as you’re turning your head away the music is thundering too you don’t even glance as we dance and we dance and I’m still nowhere closer to you
